Tom Marzolf of Fazio Design recently completed a major renovation and redesign of the Sabal Course with golf course builder, Glase Golf. A $17 million scope of work included all new elements installed on this layout that originally opened in 1998. Fazio Design, Tom Fazio and Tom Marzolf built the original course for Developer David Lucas, and the membership-run club invited them to return in 2020 to help Bonita Bay with a Masterplan to rebuild the Sabal Course to this fresh new design.

New lakes were dug to create fill to lift the entire course a half meter higher for improved drainage. 450 catch basins were installed with extensive French drain lines throughout the play areas.

The Bonita Bay Sabal site features large lakes and vast protected wetlands that are home to extensive wildlife including the Florida Panther, black bear, deer, wild turkeys, wading birds and alligators.

The golf course features seven tees per hole to accommodate players of all skill levels of this vibrant south Florida Private Club.

Champion Bermuda Greens and Bimini Bermuda tees, fairways and roughs are framed by abundant palm tree clusters and native landscape plantings.

This course is a walk through nature on the edges of the Florida Everglades.

Tom Marzolf says: “The Sabal Course is a short and sporty fun challenge that has become a member favorite at Bonita Bay Club.”
