Matt is the owner and principal designer for Sustain Golf.  Sustain Golf is an experienced, hands-on, full-service firm working on forward-thinking projects worldwide. We are committed to designing and building quantifiably sustainable and accessible golf courses. We love golf but believe it needs to adapt to a changing climate and the evolving needs and expectations of today’s golfer. We also work to improve the public perception of existing golf facilities by recognizing and highlighting their many positive and beneficial aspects.

Matt has successfully completed the EIGCA’s comprehensive and innovative Sustainability Program, the only continuing professional development initiative of its kind, to become one of the few Sustainable Design Leaders in the golf industry. 

Matt is also working as an Accredited Sustainability Verifier with the GEO Foundation. GEO is the golf industry’s preeminent sustainability advocate, dedicated to inspire, support, and credibly share the golf industry’s commitment to nature, resources, and community. Finally, Matt is a member of  the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) and currently working on its Membership Committee. 

Between 2005 and 2012, Matt worked as a Design Associate with internationally renowned design firm Golfplan, working on all aspects of more than one hundred golf development projects worldwide, including two projects ranked by Golf Digest within the top-100 in the world: The Club at Nine Bridges and Haesley Nine Bridges in South Korea.

From late 2004 through 2005, Matt worked as an Assistant Site Superintendent, building golf courses with Certified Builder McDonald & Sons in eastern Maryland, USA.

In 2004, after 12-months of intensive study and travel to experience some of the finest golf courses in the United Kingdom, he graduated with an MSc in Golf Course Architecture (distinction) from the EIGCA education program in Edinburgh, Scotland. Upon graduating, he was honored as the Toro Student Golf Course Architect of the Year.

Matt graduated from Lehigh University (Pennsylvania, USA) in 1996 with a degree in Civil Engineering and has been professionally licensed as an engineer since 2001. He is now licensed in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and California.

He is an avid golfer, taking the opportunity to experience some of the finest historic golf courses of the American northeast while perpetually working on his game.
