The second workshop of the EIGCA Vocational Qualification in Golf Course Design (EVQGCD) is underway in Ayrshire, Scotland. Our 10 students have three days of lectures with EIGCA members Niall Glen (Chair of EIGCA’s Education Committee), Simon Gidman (Module 1 Leader), Tim Lobb (Module 2 Leader) and Sergio Carballo (EIGCA’s Education Programme Manager), with a sprinkling of golf on amazing courses in the area.
Part of what makes this qualification great, is the camaraderie between students, who make lifelong friendships and use the course as a springboard to make valuable contacts for their future careers. It’s not all about book learning. Peer learning and meeting experienced golf course architects are just as important as the academic and technical parts of this qualification.
