EIGCA Member, Simon Gidman has an update on his latest projects

THORPE HALL GOLF CLUB – rebunkering works
Simon Gidman has been asked to review the bunkering of Thorpe Hall Golf Course. The golf course whilst generally short by modern day standards – built on some 85 acres – has an amazing history with two R&A secretaries as previous members of the golf club – Michael Bonallack and Peter Dawson. The club recently undertook minor changes “in-house” but felt it necessary to ask for independent advice on the overall strategy of the course and in particular the location and style of the existing bunkers. It is anticipated that the works will take place over the next few years. The Club is also considering a new chipping/practice ground area as part of the overall development and improvement of their golfing facilities.

STOVER GOLF CLUB – remodelling works
The new 5 holes on land adjacent to the golf club (Phase 1) have now been completed and thanks to the careful construction works undertaken by EIGCA Bronze Partner Profusion Environmental, and the greenkeeping staff, the new holes are well advanced. The greens were sown with a pure bent grass seed and are already well established. The new holes are due to be opened in June/July of this year. Phases 2 and 3 of the project will be concluded over the next 2 years.

RUDDING PARK GOLF CLUB
Gidman Golf has been asked to review the layout of Rudding Park Golf Club and has been working with Martin Hawtree, the original architect, discussing alterations to the layout and increased bunkering. As with most projects of this nature the works will take place over three or four years to limit the impact on the membership.

ORSETT GOLF CLUB – new chipping green(s)
Simon has been asked to prepare the plans for a new practice chipping green at Orsett Golf Club. Tenders for this work will be issued shortly with a view to the chipping green(s) being ready for play in 2024 in preparation for the Club’s 100th anniversary.
