Simon Gidman has been involved with golf since 1973, initially as a professional golfer at Gerrards Cross GC. He then studied landscape architecture at Leeds Metropolitan University before commencing a career in golf course architecture with Hawtrees in 1983. In 1991 he set up his own company and has since developed a number of prestigious private and public courses throughout Europe.
His philosophy is to enhance the individual character of each site and combining that with the three principles of golf course architecture to provide an exciting sporting challenge which is both visually attractive and ecologically sound. The company have recently been awarded the complete upgrading of Northenden GC [18 holes] and Hart Common GC [18 holes], the re-development of Hösel GC [südplatz], Germany, as well as new developments at Potters Crouch GC [Herts], Stonebridge GC [Warks] and Manvers Lakeside [Yorks].
The company also act as Consultants to golf clubs seeking to renovate and upgrade their courses eg The Brancepeth Castle GC [Colt], Hockley GC [Braid design], Highgate GC., Highwoods GC [J.H. Taylor] and The Royal Automobile Club [Fowler]. Simon Gidman is a past president of the EIGCA and vice President of the BIGCA. He also chaired a subcommittee on safety margins on golf courses.
