EIGCA Annual Meeting – golf, awards, technology … and business

The EIGCA’s Annual Meeting is the Institute’s flagship event and brings together the EIGCA community of members, partners and patrons for 2 days of golf (this year was at Flommens in Sweden and Royal Copenhagen Golf Club in Denmark) and one day of education at the Conference. This year’s event was held in Copenhagen in June.

The Conference focused on the use of technology in golf. Speakers from Husqvarna (robotic mowers), Trackman (off-course golf), Steiner and Partners (digital tools and technologies), and Golfgraffix (virtual reality) addressed nearly 100 EIGCA members, partners and patrons from 18 countries.

Talk about technology was followed by Mike Benkusky, ASGCA President (the social aspects of golf in the US), Charlotte Menai-Davis (on the work of The Golf Trust) and Jacob Thomsen of the Danish Golf Union (a game-based sustainability approach).

These speakers were followed by Sam Thomas from the GEO Foundation, who summarised the discussions from the roundtable session held after the golf at The Royal Copenhagen Golf Club (read about the roundtables).

The day ended with a Q&A session for EIGCA members who were able to raise questions about the running of the Institute with serving Council members.

Awards and presentations

  • New partners were welcomed with certificates presented to five Bronze Partners, DSV UK, IDBD, P Quinn Construction, Surtec Golf Golf Agronomy and Troon International).
  • New member Bruce Charlton was presented with a certificate and EIGCA badge and tie.
  • Outstanding Contribution Awards were presented to members Martin Hawtree and Peter Harradine.
  • The Paul O’Brien trophy was presented to David Ibanez, from Bronze Partner, Surtec Golf Agronomy and EIGCA student, for the best score by a non-member over both rounds of golf played.
  • The President’s Cup was presented to Paul Kimber for the best score by a member over both rounds of golf played.

Annual Meeting 2025

Plans are being finalised for the 2025 event, which will be in Dornoch, Scotland from 14-16 May. Members of the American, Australian, Japanese and Korean golf course architects associations will be invited. This event will be a World Forum and will commemorate and celebrate EIGCA’s 25th anniversary.
