Why EIGCA’s Articles of Association matter – and what has changed

EIGCA’s Articles of Association are more than just a formal document – they form the foundation of how the Institute operates as a professional membership organisation. They set out the rules that govern the Institute, guide how decisions are made, and ensure transparency and fairness for all members and stakeholders.

As the profession and community evolve, it is essential that the governing documents evolve too. Maintaining robust governance is an ongoing responsibility for EIGCA’s Council and HQ Executive. In 2025, the Board undertook a careful review of the Articles of Association to ensure they remain clear, relevant, and fit for purpose.

Why were they updated?

The review was not about introducing sweeping changes, but rather about tidying up and clarifying small details. These updates are important to keep the Articles aligned with the way the Institute works today, while also future-proofing them for the future.

Key updates

While most amendments were minor and administrative in nature, one significant area of change relates to the criteria for retired members. The Board wanted to ensure that membership categories properly reflect the professional journey of members and give due recognition to those who have stepped back from active practice but continue to play an important part in the EIGCA community.

The revised criteria provide greater clarity and consistency, ensuring that the retired member category is fair, transparent, and reflective of the values of EIGCA.

Why the Articles matter

Keeping the Articles of Association up to date ensures that the Institute remains well-governed, relevant, and able to represent and support its members effectively. It also helps maintain the high standards expected of a professional membership organisation.
