East Berkshire GC is a classic heathland course but as with many such courses the retention and enhancement of the heather and heathland character is a skilled and delicate task which the course manager Ryan Bezzant is looking forward to implement over the coming years via the Strategic Plan. Such a Plan is an important tool for golf clubs to ensure a continuity of purpose / design character and unity , given the inevitable changes to management staff and committees over the years. It also helps plan budgets and programming.

The brief and design aim set by East Berkshire GC for Weller Designs is to bring back the heathland character that has been lost in places and to enhance its character as one of the finest heathland courses in the South East. Inevitably this does require some tree removal which is, quite rightly, a sensitive subject for Members and for Planning Authorities / Natural England for that matter. The illustration by Bruce aim to show how a number of holes can be dramatically enhanced through heather re-generation / planting  , appropriate bunker styling , woodland management and course design.
