Royal Automobile ClubAfter carrying out the initial phase of works at the start of 2016, the winter of 2016/2017 saw MJ Abbott Ltd return to Royal Automobile Club under the watchful eye of EIGCA Past President Tom Mackenzie to complete the renovation works to the Old Course at Woodcote Park.

An original Herbert Fowler design, the course has undergone a complete bunker renovation with new tees built on the 14th and 18th holes and the 13th hole being almost completely rebuilt from tee to green creating a visually stunning yet testing par 3.

Course Manager Lee Strutt oversaw the project that included the prior testing of a number of different bunker sands and liner combinations before installation to achieve the best performance and maximise the benefits of the new bunkering. The fair winter and chalk downland soil allowed work to proceed at full pace and be completed on time.
