Nairn Golf Club, east of Inverness in Scotland, hosted this year’s Amateur Championship, one of amateur golf’s majors, in June.

Copyright Tom MackenziePart of the work involved converting the revetted fairway bunkers into a more naturalised style , bringing them into play more for the longest players from the back tees. Three new greens were also built on the 1st, 7th and 14th and extensive green surrounds reshaping undertaken on a further 12 holes. It was great to see how some of the best amateurs in the game approached the revised course.

Copyright Tom MackenzieThe event went really well with the weather throwing up a mix bag of challenges that caused devastation for some and allowed a new course record of 62 to be posted. The week culminated in an epic final where the eventual winner, Laird Shepherd, battled back from 8 down after 17 holes of the morning round before finally going ahead on the 38th hole.
