Mike Hurdzan Visits Eigca

The Student membership of the European Institute of Golf Course Architects together with some of the membership of EIGCA were treated to a day?s lecture by Dr. Michael Hurdzan, eminent international golf course architect, author and Past President of the American Society at Wentworth Club.

The TORO INTERNATIONAL DESIGN LECTURE featured Chris Kennedy, Golf Course Manager at Wentworth, a tour and inspection of the courses and golf on the Club?s original Harry Colt Golf Course – the East and a presentation on Designing for Maintenance by Andy Brown of the Toro company.

The highlight of the day was the HURDZAN LECTURE, encompassing the Concept of Form follows Function, and concluding with a session on environmental aspects of golf course design.

The audience, some 50, students and members alike were enthralled by Dr. Hurdzan?s depth of expertise, experience and enthusiasm and look forward to his returning next year to present a further lecture.

The TORO INTERNATIONAL DESIGN LECTURE was the first of its kind organised by EIGCA for its students and its membership, and it is intended to make this an annual event, to be held each Spring at the Wentworth Club.

Noted international architects will be invited to present the lecture for the EIGCA students and membership alike.

April 2005, the fifth anniversary of the organisation?s formation following the merger of BIGCA, ESGA and AFAG, will see the Institute?s Annual meeting held in St Andrews, together with invited contributions from the President and delegations of the American Society of Golf Course Architects together with the Australian and Japanese societies.
