Mr Stephen Ridgway

Admitted as an Associate Member (AEIGCA) in 2008; upgraded to Member (MEIGCA) in 2018.

Stephen has been the lead designer for the internationally acclaimed experts in sports surfaces, STRI, since 2021. STRI provide specialist consultancy for all stages of sporting projects from inception to completion and as their golf course architect, Stephen oversees and manages all stages of the golf-related projects that STRI are appointed to. Stephen works closely with clients to develop proposals and solutions that are practical, achievable and sustainable for the benefit of all stakeholders.  

Stephen is a 2004 graduate of the EIGCA’s Golf Course Architecture MSc programme based at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh. On completion, Stephen went to work with successful design firm Weller Designs Ltd based in Surrey. Stephen was the firm’s lead designer for 12 years and was involved with multiple golf projects in the UK, Europe, Africa and the USA, tackling everything from bunker remodelling and practice facilities to new 18 hole courses and master planned communities.

In 2017, Stephen launched his own design practice where he continued working with golf clubs to ‘freshen up’ course layouts and features and with developers to conceive new proposals for the modern game. He was also involved in the master planning of a couple of resorts in Europe and the Caribbean.

Stephen has accumulated great experience in all aspects of golf course design and development which allows him to efficiently and effectively take a project, however big or small, through from initiation to completion. His affable and professional attitude makes Stephen popular with clients and contractors alike.
