Ms Kari Haug

Admitted as an Associate Member (AEIGCA) in 2013; upgraded to Member (MEIGCA) in 2021.

Kari Haug is a golf course architect dedicated to eco-sensitive, sustainable design and enhancing course playability for women, seniors, and players of all skill levels. As a former collegiate golfer and skilled designer, she brings a deep understanding of golf strategy—envisioning engaging and accessible experiences from tee to green.

A member of the European Institute of Golf Course Architects (EIGCA), Kari is one of the few female architects in the profession globally. Her work is shaped by a passion for the game and a commitment to inclusivity and innovation in course design.

Kari’s design approach is grounded in research. In collaboration with Club Champion and golf researcher Dr. Sue Shapcott, she conducted hitting distance studies using Trackman technology to better understand the needs of amateur women golfers. This research led to the development of Playable Pathways —a design philosophy that promotes enjoyable, equitable golf experiences through thoughtful layout and strategic playability.

Her architectural perspective is further informed by time spent living and studying in Scotland, where she explored iconic courses like Royal Dornoch, North Berwick, Sunningdale, Swinley Forest, and St. Andrews. These experiences shaped her design ethos, which emphasizes strategic interest, environmental stewardship, historical appreciation, and community connection.

Kari is also a dedicated volunteer and leader. She currently serves on the EIGCA Council as Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and has previously served on the boards of the Minnesota Women’s Public Golf Association and The First Tee of Minneapolis.
