Mr Gareth Williams

Passionate about golf course design, architecture and integrated landscape planning, Gareth is versatile in collaborative golf course planning, design and project management, as well as creativity in concept and business development, brand management and marketing.

With Clients that currently include the R&A, Faldo Design and Lobb+Partners, he has broad international experience on a wide variety of developments in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia over nearly twenty years in golf course design and resort planning.  As both an in-house architect and as an independent design consultant he has worked on projects that include Chart Hills, Tandridge and West Hill Golf Clubs in England, Kuala Lumpur G&CC in Malaysia, Laguna Lang Co in Vietnam, King Salman Park in Riyadh, Elea Estate in Cyprus, Lough Erne in Northern Ireland, and the German 2022 Ryder Cup Bid Course redesign.

Beyond pure golf course design, his work has included commercial and business development, conceptual and detailed masterplanning, graphic presentation and CAD generation.

Gareth’s varied project experience has helped inform his design philosophy, which ultimately seeks to balance traditional golf course architecture with sustainable design practice, the demands of the changing golf market and modern golf development.  He is a firm believer in designs that deliver operational multifunctionality and commercial sustainability – and is a strong advocate for developing alternative forms of the game, including shorter facilities and formats that make golf more accessible.

Evolution of golf and its courses – as well as a broader passion for design and landscape – feeds his professional curiosity, and continued professional development plays an important part in his growth as a designer.  Elected as a Full EIGCA Member in 2020, he engages in its Sustainability and CPD Programmes and also Chaired its Sustainability Committee 2019-22, sitting on the Working Party for the R&A’s GC2030 Initiative in that period.
