Conference / Annual General Meeting:

2-5 APRIL 2009
Hotels van Oranje, Noordwijk, Netherlands

Next year we are holding our Conference/AGM in the Netherlands, on the rugged coastline at Noordwijk. We have organised an action-packed programme which not only includes a very interesting conference programme but also the chance to play the top golf courses in the country.

The schedule is as follows:

Thursday 2 April

Afternoon: President’s Cup Round 1 at Kennemer GC
(optional dinner in the clubhouse afterwards)
www.kennemergolf.nl

Kennemer Golf Club was founded in 1910 as a 9-hole course but moved to its present site in 1927. Harry Colt was commissioned to lay out the new 18 hole course, currently courses A & C, and many consider it to be one of his best designs. In 1985 Pennink added a further 9 holes, the B course, although he followed Colt’s original 1937 routing for this with one exception – Pennink reversed the dogleg by moving the tee, which had been situated to the rear of the 5th green, to the left of the 5th fairway and by cutting a ‘V’ into the dunescape. Kennemer is a classic links course and the clubhouse is full of atmosphere and history.

Friday 3 April

Morning: EIGCA AGM in the conference hotel

Afternoon: Afternoon President’s Cup Round 2 at Noordwijkse GC
www.noordwijksegolfclub.nl

Evening: Dinner at Noordwijkse GC

Noordwijkse Golf Club originally opened in 1915 as a 9-hole course 500m north of the lighthouse. A new nine holes, designed by Harry Colt, were added in 1928 although they did not open for 3 years due to bad winters. In the late 1950’s it became apparent that the course had to move to allow for new municipal development and after some delays with planning approvals the new 18 hole course, to a design by Mr de Jong under direction and advice from Frank Pennink, started construction in 1969. Noordwijikse is a tough but interesting links course with a run of holes through a pine forest.

Saturday 4 April

All day: Conference in the conference hotel

Evening: President’s Dinner in the conference hotel

Conference venue: Hotels van Oranje, Noordwijk

www.hotelsvanoranje.nl

The theme of the Conference is the creation of affordable golf courses and the keynote speech will be given by The R&A who will reinforce the link between affordable and sustainable golf.

This is a topical response to the present economic situation. ‘Affordable’ golf can only be provided if all elements – construction, irrigation and operational management – are planned to conform to the overall objective of delivering a project which meets the objectives of being both affordable and sustainable. The panel of speakers will explain how this can be achieved.

The Conference will also have a talk on the history and development of golf in Holland from Joris Slooten, managing director of Golfbaan de Rottebergen.
