Dave, who was the PGA’s Captain in its Centenary Year of 2001, played in four Ryder Cup teams and won more than 20 tournaments in a career that saw him twice runner up in The Open Championship.

After his playing days ended he embarked on a successful career as a golf course designer, joining the British Institute of Golf Course Architects in 1995 and then EIGCA when the three major European golf course architect associations merged in 2000. He leaves a legacy of over 100 courses around the world including Terre Blanche in France, St Leon Rot in Germany, San Roque in Spain and of course the Brabazon Course at The Belfry where The Ryder Cup was famously played on four separate occasions.
