Ferrybridge growing inFerrybridge GC hole 8 post seedingThe company’s latest project, a new 9 hole course designed by Simon Gidman, at Ferrybridge in West Yorkshire. The new development commissioned by SSE to replace the existing course which was taken over to site a new Multifuel Power Plant. During the construction of the adjacent replacement A1 motorway, a ‘Roman Chariot’ was found on site and because of this planning restraints imposed a restriction that no topsoil could be stripped to ensure that any further archaeology fragments remain undisturbed.

In excess of 50,000m3 of subsoil from the power station was therefore relocated and used to form and enhance the features of the golf course. Extensive green complexes were created with significant surrounds mound work to improve and compliment the natural topography.

Simon Gidman has commented on the amount of care and attention to detail paid by our shapers and finishers to developing the detail on the plans, in particular to greens and surrounds, which will be a major feature of the new course when it opens for play in 2017.
