Andy Brown honoured with the Harry Colt Award

At the EIGCA President’s Dinner on 16th May 2025, President, Caspar Grauballe, proudly presented the Harry Colt Award to Andy Brown, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the game of golf and his unwavering support of the Institute.
The Harry Colt Award is named after one of the great pioneers of golf course architecture and is presented each year to an individual or organisation that has made a lasting and meaningful impact on the sport. Past recipients include The R&A, Bernhard Langer, and Annika Sörenstam — figures whose influence and legacy reach far beyond the fairways.
This year, the honour went to someone who, in many ways, has been part of EIGCA’s journey since the very beginning.
A true friend of the EIGCA community
Since EIGCA was formed 25 years, Andy has done so much more than support from the sidelines. His involvement has ranged from accompanying student study trips—sometimes in freezing winds and torrential rain—to offering quiet encouragement and advice that has helped shape careers.
Andy has been a vital supporter of the EIGCA’s Education Programme, with his time, energy, and personal presence, dedicating his time and energy to walking with students, sharing meals, and even joining them on the course (though, as one anecdote recalled, occasionally finding a creative excuse to head back to the clubhouse early!).
At industry gatherings, Andy is known as the friendly face who remembers names, checks in on colleagues, and makes sure new voices feel heard, encouraged and welcome. He leads not with products, but with people—building connections and strengthening the fabric of the professional community.
Champion of values that matter
Andy’s influence has also extended to championing important causes. He has been a consistent advocate for sustainability within golf and has supported charitable programmes such as Battle Back, which helps wounded service personnel rebuild their lives through sport.
Whether mentoring young architects, engaging in thoughtful debate about the future of the game, or simply offering a listening ear, Andy’s impact has always been quietly powerful and deeply felt.
A well-deserved honour
In presenting the award, Caspar Grauballe summed up the feelings of many when he said:
“We can hardly imagine the Institute without him. He has been called a constant, an ambassador, a mentor, a legend… and now—a recipient of the Harry Colt Award.”
EIGCA congratulates Andy Brown on this richly deserved recognition and thanks him for his remarkable contribution to golf, to our members, and to the future of the game.
