Pilot is a new central control system from Hunter Industries designed exclusively for golf course irrigation control. The new system is available as an above-ground system using conventional field controllers or a below-ground system using decoders. The new equipment can be used stand-alone, or networked into a whole system with Pilot central control software.
In addition to central control software, Pilot products include field controllers, decoder hubs, and decoders. The field controller manages up to 80 stations, and the decoder hub can control up to 999 stations.
According to Product Manager Randall Mills, “The Pilot system was designed to enhance serviceability and reliability, two major issues for any golf course manager. From sophisticated troubleshooting tools built into every component to a clean design with no exposed electronics or loose wires, no detail was overlooked in the creation of the system. The color-coded, modular layout includes unique technology to eliminate the frustration.”
The Pilot system also aims to please from a service standpoint. The only service tool required is a #2 Phillips screwdriver, which Hunter highlights by including one with every controller.
The Pilot Central Control System is available now, and can be used in retrofit, upgrade and new construction situations. To learn more about Hunter's complete line of golf irrigation products visit hunterindustries.com/golf.

FibreCore Europe continues to develop into the golf market, this year supplying and installing products in both Europe and the USA. The company is now proud to announce delivering 34 bridges to the Dutch city of Rotterdam. The bridges are strong and lightweight, easy to install and can be moved to elsewhere during their life span. They represent a major move towards greening the city.
Bridges lasting 50 years while requiring virtually no maintenance are also available for golf courses. They are supplied under the brand name InfraCore Golf Bridges, where InfraCore is the technology invented by FiberCore Europe that is also used in the wider civil engineering market. Bridges of up to 27m span and structures driven on by the heaviest trucks have been built and supplied to municipalities and construction contractors as well as golf courses over the past decade. InfraCore has also proven that this technology is excellent in the construction of lock gates, again with life spans well exceeding current more traditional materials.

Ignite is the latest creeping bentgrass coming out of the Simplot-Jacklin Seed bentgrass line. Ignite has performed consistently well in the NTEP 2008-2013 putting green trials across North America. It has been chosen as the latest to the Jacklin Seed bentgrass line because of its medium green genetic color, very fine leaf texture, high shoot density, and strong disease resistance including dollar spot, snow mold and brown patch. Perhaps the most important trait of Ignite its adaptability. Ignite has been proven to provide consistently top notch playing conditions across a wide range of growing environments, mowing heights, and maintenance conditions. One of its most striking attributes from an aesthetic perspective is the ability of the turf to maintain consistency throughout the entire play season. Often with creeping bentgrass you will have varieties that perform well coming out of winter and throughout spring, but the combination of harsh summer conditions and increased play result in poor play conditions come the fall. Ignite has been shown to perform consistently throughout the entire play season.

Everris has launched Memorial, a brand new creeping bentgrass suitable for golf greens, tees and other close-mown fine turf. It is recommended also for inclusion in blends for the seeding of golf course fairways.
Among the key characteristics of Memorial are excellent resistance to Dollar Spot, Michrodochium Patch (Fusarium), and drought, accompanied by rapid establishment, good wear and frost tolerance, and the ability to achieve and maintain dense ground cover. Once established, Memorial is remarkably tolerant of dry, low-nutrient conditions, helping turf managers reduce input and maintenance costs.
Memorial delivers outstanding turf quality in close-mown situations, displaying an attractive medium-dark green colour, a fine leaf and low growth habit. In NTEP assessments, the quality of Memorial turf was rated among the top 25% of all entries in almost half of the locations where trials were carried out.
Memorial is available throughout Europe from Everris distributors.

The chance to meet and discuss the merits of Blinder Bunker Liner with those EIGCA members present in Malmö was one not to be missed and the feedback we received gives us great confidence moving forward in installing our product throughout the world.
Established in the UK, and already with over 40 club installations, Blinder Bunker Liner has proven that its system of lining bunkers which combats issues of contamination, sand replenishment and reduced maintenance costs is a viable cost effective option for all golf clubs.
Blinder International is now looking to roll out the lining system into new countries and would welcome EIGCA members considering the specification of Bunker Liners for “nuisance” bunkers.
Worldwide enquiries are rising and we will shortly embark on a European Tour of club installations in Italy, Germany and France. If you have clubs in your portfolio that would benefit from Blinder we would love to assist.
The long term aim of Blinder is to work with contractors around the world to achieve a cost effective way of supplying and installing Blinder Bunker Liner in the world market.

Construction on the first 18 holes of Venus Rock, a 36-hole golf complex designed by Hans Georg Erhardt with Tony Jacklin, commenced in spring of 2012, with the next phase proposed for late 2013.
The development effort has included the stabilization of steep slopes surrounding the course, with a goal to establish healthy vegetation. Profile Products’ Flexterra-HP® Flexible Growth Medium™ was proposed by Gavin Kelly, Western Europe manager for Profile Products to address the 45-degree slopes and limited irrigation.
A Bowie 600-gallon hydromulcher was used to apply the thick and viscous hydraulic slurries to the difficult to reach slopes and roughs. The Aristo design team saw the proposed solution as green, environmentally-sound and aesthetically pleasing.
The site is very demanding as it is set in a valley with huge steep slopes and a river running through the middle. Eight months of the year it is very dry with temperatures reaching over 40 degrees Celsius. The remaining four months are also challenging as there can be heavy bursts of rain up to 80mm in three hours. Flexterra-HP is perfect due to its water retaining abilities during dry periods and also its holding capacity during heavy rainfall.
