They have worked together on international golf projects but also separately in their home countries. In the beginning of this year both were rewarded for some of their work.
Budersand GC, designed by Rolf-Stephan Hansen and on the island of Sylt, was awarded the best golf course in Germany 2020 by the country’s leading golf journal, Golf Magazin. The golf course has since the opening in 2008 received several awards such as the number one golf facility by GOLF-DIGEST in 2018/2019. When receiving the news of the award Rolf-Stephan stated “it is of course with great joy I received the news that Budersand GC is voted the best golf course in Germany. To have the opportunity to create a links course on my home island was a dream come true and I am proud of the work carried out by everyone in the project. And what we did will bring pleasure for golfers now and in the future”.
Vårgårda GC is located some 45 minutes from Gothenburg, the second largest city in Sweden. The course was designed by Peter Fjällman and opened for play in 2009. During construction, a large deposit of sand was found on the site and was laid out on all the playing areas. This has made it possible to keep the golf course open, more or less, year-round. Vårgårda GC was voted the best golf course in Sweden by Golfhäftet, a discount card that offers special benefits for its over 100 000 card holders on 950 golf courses throughout Europe.
Etelä-Saimma GC was awarded the most beautiful golf course in Finland 2019. Since its opening some ten years ago it has received many awards and been very appreciated by the Finnish golfers. “Its unique location by the country’s largest lake makes it a very special golfing experience” says Peter Fjällman who designed the golf course.
At the moment Hansen & Fjällman are working together on some redesign projects in Germany and Scandinavia.
