Learning Live 2022

There are two types of professionals in the golf course design world – those who continue to learn and develop their skills to be the best they can be … and those who don’t. Part of the benefit of being an EIGCA member or partner are the opportunities to keep skills and industry knowledge up to date and that is exactly what happened at Learning Live 2022.

The first Learning Live event took place on 30th November to 1st December at The Renaissance Hotel, Heathrow, with 42 delegates from 10 countries. This new event gave members and partners opportunities to learn from each other’s knowledge and experiences, with plenty of ‘mix and mingle’ time to develop and strengthen all-important working relationships.

The world of golf course architecture changes quickly, whether it is new technology, new thinking, new trends, new situations to adapt to, best practice evolutions, etc. Seven partners and one patron gave informative presentations covering irrigation, water management, hydroponic turf, rootzones, synthetic turf solutions and a new carbon tracker. The focus on case studies helped the audience understand how these advances work in practice.

Soft skills are also important, and delegates took part in a Presentation Skills Masterclass. A few took to the stage to read a children’s story book to the room to emphasise the importance in tone of voice at getting attention for what is said.

Doing a great job means putting in the time and effort to learn so you set yourself apart from the queue of others snapping at your heels who want to work on the projects you want to win. The members, partners, affiliates and patrons who were able to attend Learning Live 2022 certainly found that it was 24-hours well spent.

Thank you to: Gold Partners Rain Bird and Toro, Silver Partners Southwest Greens, Hunter Industries, Bronze Partners Capillary Bunkers and Profile Products, and Patron GEO Foundation for their involvement.
