The changes were planned for 2019-20, but the recent damage caused by the storm on October 10th has brought our ideas forward and we may begin work as early as this fall.
The design changes I have proposed to 4 and 5 require reversing the holes in order take better advantage of the existing terrain and eliminate the "blind" shot to the 5th green. The new routing will provide sea views from an elevated 4th tee, and have the new 5th green site be less influenced by the N-340 then it currently is. We will also open up the views to the river and have it become a more important element of play in the future.
Over the last few years, Rio Real has been investing in its property and equipment. These investments can be easily seen as the presentation of playing surfaces under the guidance José Ángel Sánchez Alcalá have improved greatly. Investments will continue as future golf course design improvements, along with a new planting concept to bring more color and variety to the golf course are part of a Masterplan for the entire property. Subtle changes to this excellent Javier Arana layout will continue to make play more receptive and enjoyable on this beautiful golf course.
"I am convinced that with the realization of the Masterplan, Rio Real will achieve its goal of being one of the most prestigious resorts on the Costa del Sol."
