The Centurions of Golf: 100 English Courses celebrating 100 years of golf

By Mike Berners Price

The Centurions of Golf

This is a personal journey around the oldest courses in England, and tells the story of golf through the developments of these clubs.

It looks at the founders and influencers, notably Blackheath; the early expansion of the game into England, such as Alnmouth; the surviving London courses laid out over common land; the Open Championship courses at Hoylake, Lytham and Sandwich; the early seaside links, courses on the Downs, heathland courses, and the early Ryder Cup courses.
