Robin graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Landscape Architecture. He started his design career with Hawtree, where for over four years he worked on many projects throughout the UK and Europe.

He set up his own Scottish based design practice in 1996 and in the following eight years established a notable client base including completed design work for illustrious Scottish golf clubs such as Royal Dornoch, Montrose Links, Boat of Garten, Nairn Dunbar and Deeside. Robin also completed a new course within the Arctic circle, at Bodø in Norway.

Joining European Design in late 2004, Robin immediately took on the lead designer role for the 18-hole course at Casa Serena, in the Czech Republic. This course is rated by 'Top 100 Golf Courses' as the No.1 course in the Czech Republic and was the host of the Foxconn Open on the European Seniors Tour from 2008 to 2011. Robin followed this up with the design of the spectacular desert course at the Royal Golf Club at Riffa Views, in Bahrain, in conjunction with Colin Montgomerie, which was the host of the Volvo Golf Champions on the European Tour, in 2011. Another project with Colin Montgomerie, was the coastal 18-hole Montgomerie Rabat course, at Plage des Nations, which opened in 2018. Robins most recent opening is the JCB Golf & Country Club, built adjacent to JCBs World Headquarters in Staffordshire, England. The course opened fully in 2019 and has already been ranked as one of the top 100 courses in Great Britain & Ireland.

Entering 2020, Robin has projects in development in Bulgaria, Russia, Guernsey and the UK.
