Ally has a background in engineering, project and construction management and, as a Scotsman who settled in Ireland, he grew up on the links with a deep-rooted love and understanding of the history and subtleties of our best golf courses. Graduating through the EIGCA education program, he worked freelance for other architects before setting up McIntosh Golf Design in 2010. Soon after, he was given the opportunity to create a new nine holes at Carne Golf Links on the wild Atlantic coast of County Mayo, his first project as lead designer. In his spare time, he writes for various golf publications from his base in Dublin. Whilst always keen to travel and learn from other courses around the world, he plays primarily at his home club of Portmarnock.
