Born in the Basque Country in 1960, he moved to Barcelona in his early years, where he has lived since with his wife and three children. Alfonso studied engineering at the Civil Engineering School of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, obtaining a PhD in Hydraulics, Coastal and harbour engineering in 1985. He also obtained a Master in Business Administration in 2001.
Alfonso learned playing golf at seven years of age at Golf Sant Cugat. For more than 15 years he was part of Spanish national amateur teams, participating in 7 European Junior Team Championship (champion in 1981), 4 EGA Trophy (British vs Continental teams), 1 Jacques Leglise Trophy, 4 World Amateur Team Championships. He won 4 consecutive Spanish Junior championships (1978-1981), became 5 times runner up at the National Championships, and took part in a large number of national and international tournaments. He won the Spanish Mid-Amateur National Championship in 2008.
Because of the Summer Olympic games at Barcelona (1992) he was enrolled by the company who designed, developed and built all infrastructures concerning the Olympic Village, as Joint Director for Water infrastructures and finally Director for Coastal infrastructures (1986-1992).
After the successful games experience the leading civil engineering company in Barcelona hired Alfonso for developing their water and coastal engineering division (1992-1999). In 1999 he became CEO of the company and stayed until 2003.
He started his work as a golf course architect in 1987, creating Vidaor, Sarda & Saenger with two other partners. In 1998 he created Green Project, first as a Design Brand, and finally as his golf design company in 2003, where he currently develops his professional activities.
